PC Settings application in Windows Server Technical Preview RRS feed

  • Question

  • The PC Settings app in Windows Server Technical Preview would not start with a message "Immersive control panel did not start". Does anybody else have a similar problem and what might be the cause of it?

  • Have you installed the Desktop Experience? Server with a GUI does not contain all the GUI options, you need to enable the Desktop Experience and several other things from Server Manager to have full GUI, PC Settings app belongs to the Desktop Experience pack.

  • Yes, I have installed the desktop experience pack prior to trying to launch PC settings, and the immersive control panel still does not start. (BTW, in Windows Servers 2012 and 2012 R2 the PC settings app was available even without the desktop experience pack).

So I have no idea how I should set an account picture or how to exercise the so called recovery restart. Both are done via PC Settings.

  • Hi,

Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.

Agree with the words of “Lotusisrael” we need to add the Desktop Experience pack to get PC setting. Tested in my Lab environment, after installing Desktop Experience Pack feature, we can see the PC setting Tab under Start menu and can change the related settings. Please check below snap for information.

    Hope it helps!

    Thanks.

  • Everything APPEARS as in your screenshot, however, when you press PC Settings the app never actually opens, and that is the problem.

  • I have the same issue.

With and without Desktop experience (GUI features) added, this feature doesn't appear to work as intended.

  • Same here: settings splash screen opens then minimizes but never shows anything but the splash screen. Any way to trigger the download/install of the preview build update without using the GUI?

  • Same here, the pc settings app will not store, so I'm unable to download the updated preview build. Windows Update Settings also won't start -> 'the app didn't start' error is given. So in short, I'm locked out of the updated build.

  • Hello Dharmesh S,

i must ask here again about this topic and news about.

As the Windows 10 updates perfect to the latest build, how should i get an update for the Windows Server TP? On MSDN there is still the old .iso file(5554304 from 01.October2014) and no updated version available.

  • It's not working for me either.  I've installed the Desktop experience pack and when I click on PC Settings it pops up momentarily then immediately shuts down to an icon on the taskbar.

How do we check for the latest build if we can't run PC Settings?
