Question

What is the client connection limit to a DirectAccess server? I see documentation for DirectAccess with UAG, but not just Direct Access. Are those numbers the same? Any information would be helpful as well as specifications of the server requirements.
Thanks!

I'm not aware of an upper limit. It's going to be performance bound. If this is published for UAG-DA, it should be similar for just DA. Realize DA is pretty expensive. We typically see about 25% of the typical performance you would get out of a traditional VPN solution. So, if server X can handle 1000 simultaneous connections using VPN (say PPTP or L2TP) then we would expect server X to handle approximately 250 using DirectAccess. These are rough numbers and will depend on your hardware configuration.
If you really want to figure this out, stress and load test to get the specific numbers for your environment :)
Also please realize there is no load balancing solution for straight DirectAccess. You would need to implement UAG-DA to be able to use NLB with DirectAccess.
Thanks!

Hi Customer,
There are no built-in limitations on the number of simultaneous DirectAccess connections that a DirectAccess server can support.
Server performance bottlenecks can limit the maximum number of concurrent DirectAccess connections.

Hi Customer,
UAG DA deployment guide is not same as DA deployment guide.
If you want to deploy DA for remote DA user, please refer to TestLab BaseConfig guide and DA stepbystep guide.
Please refer to DA troubleshooting guide if you encounter any DA issue.

Ok fair enough, but I still dont see documentation that shows the limit for how many clients a server can handle with DA.Monday, May 9, 2011 11:19 AM
