SBS performance real world stats

Question
-
I am looking for some guidance on how SBS 2011performs in a virtualized environment? If I had a dual hexcore Westmere with 32 gig of RAM would that be good enough to support an environment of 30 users doing straight file services, Exchange, printing - no server-based apps.
A link to theoretical performance specs if available would be appreciated but primary real world experience would be the most valuable.Tuesday, June 14, 2011 7:21 AM

I would be very comfortable with that, especially since you say there are not server-based apps ie SQL, LOB.
When you say virtualized environment, I would image that you mean to have SBS2011 std as a VM, with perhaps one or more VMs?

Sounds good to me also. You should give the SBS 24 or more GB RAM. Not really sure the second CPU is as important as a fast storage system, so if you drag this server down with 5400 RPM hard drives in RAID5 with only 3 drives in the array you will still get sucky performance. But if you use RAID 1, or 0+1, or RAID5 with 5 or more spindles, and SAS 10K or 15K drives, the second CPU will idle most of the time.
