To move threads on the TechNet and MSDN platform from one language to a different language, see Forum Moderation: How to Move Threads Between Different Language Forums.
1. Reply to the user with the following example text template, but should be customized according to your specific situation or scenario:
<Forum user> Your Windows 7 question is more complex than what is typically answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for the IT Pro audience on TechNet. Please post your question in the TechNet Windows 7 Networking forum. <Moderator signature>

2. Have another moderator mark this post as the answer and close/lock the thread.
Except for inappropriate audiences, deciding when to move threads is specific to a technology, so many of the specifics about moving threads cannot be discussed in this document. If you have a question about whether a thread should be moved, escalate the issue. When you move a thread, when prompted for a reason, it is best to give enough detail to help moderators in the new forum and to minimize efforts. For example, if you move a Windows 7 thread to the Windows Update forum, it is helpful to indicate the thread came from the Windows 7 forum so the target moderators won't have to ask for the Windows client version.

3. When you are the moderator who moves a thread, update the metadata information.
When a thread is moved between
Microsoft Answers, the metadata (Product and OS versions) information is lost. This may cause difficulties to community user's who answer the thread. So it is the responsibility of the moderator, who moves the thread, to update the metadata information after the movement

However, this particular article talks about moving threads in the Answers forum and not about moving threads between various MSDN /TechNet forums. Do we want (or already have) another article clarifying MSDN/TechNet forums moderators responsibilities in particular to moving threads?
Per this article, moderators in TechNet forums cannot move threads to Microsoft Answers. When I move a thread, I see 4 choices: Msdn, TechNet, Microsoft, and Expression. What is "Microsoft"? I assume this is not Answers.
Jetta, yes, 7 days. See the page about marking answers.
Currently in Answers there is this policy: if a thread is moved within Answers >18hrs after the OP was created a reply to the OP will be made explaining that the thread has been moved. If the moved is done <18hrs after the OP was created no such reply is made. If this policy is to be continued, I think it would be helpful to have it reflected here.
In Para 2 above, should the mod. wait for a set period before marking the move advice as an answer or do it immediately?
In Answers 2.0+, wong language threads are often replied to with a similar post saying how to find the correct language forum (usually by way of Bing translator). I think tis should be mentioned too. Again as per my comment above, should these replies be marked as aswers immediately?
In Section 3. (above) this is no longer ALWAYS the case in Answers 2.0+. Much of the time the metadata is retained. However there are certain moves within Answers where the meta data is lost - for example when moving from the Internet Explorer 8/Vista forum to the Windows Vista/Programs forum the Internet Explorer 8 meta data is lost, so I just put it in as a small "moderator edit" at the bottom of the OP.
