Running AD CS on Server Core

Applies to Windows Server 2012 RC

There are several changes from earlier operating systems regarding the installation of roles on Server Core. For example, you can install and configure Windows Server 2012 RC using the graphical user interface (GUI) and then switch to the Server Core option. You can also do that the other way around, install Server Core and then turn on the GUI. If you need to install Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS) role services from the command line, you can do so using the Windows PowerShell deployment cmdlets. For more information, see Deploying AD CS Using Windows PowerShell.

Management functions available for Server Core from Windows PowerShell are limited to configuring the Authority Information Access (AIA), Certificate Revocation List (CRL) Distribution Point (CDP), and issuing already configured certificate templates for use by clients.
