How to Launch the Command Prompt Window
There are several ways you can launch the command prompt within Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2:

  • Click Start, type cmd in the Start Search box, and press Enter.  If you want to make it a command prompt with administrative right, hold control and shift, then press enter. Or you can right click and select run as administrator.  Allow the UAC prompt.




  • Click Start, type command in the Start Search box, and press Enter.  Again press Control and Shift then enter to run with administrative rights.  Or you can right click and select run as administrator.  Allow the UAC prompt.



  • Choose Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt. To run with administrative rights, right click and select run as administrator.  Allow the UAC prompt.



  • If Command Prompt is on the Start menu, choose Start, Command Prompt.  Again, right click and select run as administrator to run with administrative rights. Allow any UAC prompts.



  • Press WinKey + R, type cmd in the Run box, and press Enter. Look at the following figure:


When you open a Command Prompt window, you’ll see a window that looks like the one shown in the following figure: 



You might need to press control, shift, and then press enter to run with administrative rights.  Allow any UAC prompts.
