WiKi: How to Report a TechNet Wiki Page

This article explains how to flag or report a TechNet Wiki page that you think is one of the following:
  • Spam
  • Pirated Content: Contains copyrighted content without permission
  • A Duplicate Article
  • A Test Article that can be deleted

Report a page

If the article is SPAM (not about Microsoft or Microsoft products), or if the article contains copyrighted content, you may follow these steps:

  1. Report the article here.
  2. Make sure you link to the spam or pirated page.

Spam

If you see an article that is not about Microsoft or Microsoft products in any way, it may qualify as Spam. It can be intentional or unintentional. It can be obviously about an existing web page (featuring links to that product or service) or it can be more subtle.

Follow these guidelines:

If it's obviously spam, you can help moderate it:

  1. Replace the title with "SPAM [Current Date]"
  2. Replace the content in the body with the word "Spam"
  3. Replace the tags with the following tags:
    1. Candidate for Deletion
    2. Spam
  4. Leave a comment on the main page: "NOTE: This article was reported as spam and will be removed. Please only post content on TechNet Wiki that is about Microsoft technologies."

For detailed instructions of this process, see Wiki User Guide: Handling Abuse

Pirated/Plagiarized Content

Has your blog post or site content been copied without your permission? Or did you find a blog or technical article copied without linking to a source and clearly without a permission?

Follow these guidelines:

  • If you are unsure whether it is pirated, report the article here. Make sure you link to the pirated page and original source.

If it's obviously plaziarized, you can help moderate it:

  1. Replace the title with "PIRATED [Current Date]"
  2. Place a note at the top: "NOTE: This content appears to have been plagiarized. Please leave a comment or email tnwiki at Microsoft (with a link to this article) if we are mistaken. The content was pulled from the following source(s):"
    1. Include one or more links to the original content.
  3. Replace the tags with the following tags:
    1. Candidate for Deletion
    2. Pirated Content
  4. Leave a comment on the main page: "NOTE: This article was reported as Pirated/Plagiarized Content (content you didn't write) and will be removed. Please do not steal content from others. If you feel we are mistaken, please leave a comment or email tnwiki at Microsoft with a link to this article and with clear and detailed reasons why you own the content or have explicit permission from the author."

If your content was copied from a Microsoft forum, Gallery, or Wiki article, then we simply ask that you help by improving the content here. TechNet Wiki exists to help people find content by building an encyclopedia, with references and links to the different topics and pages. This helps people find content quickly that is robust and community driven.

Duplicate Article

If it's a duplicate article, you can help moderate it:

  1. Before you start, pick which article is the original (and all the others are the duplicates).
    1. If all the articles are the same, pick the oldest article with the lowest article# in the URL.
    2. If one article has received more revisions and comments than the others, pick that article as the original one.
  2. On each of the duplicate articles, put "DUPLICATE: " at the front of the article title.
  3. Add a note at the top that explains which article it's a duplicate of.
    1. Include a link to the original content.
    2. Example: "NOTE: This article is a duplicate of: Article Name"
  4. Replace the tags with the following tags:
    1. Candidate for Deletion
    2. Duplicate Article
  5. Leave a comment on the main page: "NOTE: This article was reported as Duplicate Content (you likely clicked Submit more than once or thought the first article was published) and will be removed. If you want to keep this article and delete the other(s), please leave a comment or email tnwiki at Microsoft with links to the articles in question."

Test Article

If it's a test article, you can help moderate it:

  1. Put "TEST: " at the front of the article title.
  2. Replace the tags with the following tags:
    1. Candidate for Deletion
    2. Test Article
  3. Leave a comment on the main page: "NOTE: This article was reported as a Test Article (temporary; not needed any more) and will be removed. If you want to keep this article for more testing in the next week or so, please leave a comment or email tnwiki at Microsoft with a link to this article and explanations about your plans to continue testing."

  • Like Naomi said , I did found such articles . Was not sure how to handle so did added Duplicate ,Duplicate 1 , Duplicate 2 ..... Is it ok?

  • I think it's OK

  • test

  • test

  • If there are several duplicate articles of the same article, adding just the 'DUPLICATE: ' tag may not be enough. We may want another identifier.
