How to Install Certification Authority Tools on a Non-Certification Authority in Windows Server 2008

Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 utilize the Server Manager for adding components. If you want to install Certification Authority, Certificate Templates, and Enterprise PKI snap-ins on a non-Certification Authority (CA), then you have to use the Add Features Wizard in Server Manager (shown in the following figure).

The steps to get to the installation point shown above are as follows:

  1. Open Server Manager.
  2. Click Features.
  3. Click Add Features.
  4. Expand Remote Server Administration Tools, Role Administration Tools, Active Directory Certificate Services Tools, and then select Certification Authority Tools.
  5. Click Next, and then click Install.
