USB devices not recognizing in Windows XP SP3‏

Problem

After updating the windows service pack, the existing mouse or USB devices failed to detect or USB device unrecognized error will come.

 

Solution

 

Download and install the Windows installer version 4.5 from the below Link

Download Link: http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/6/1/261fca42-22c0-4f91-9451-0e0f2e08356d/WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe

Click start and select RUN. Open %windir%\inf folder.

 Backup and delete the below files

 

  • INFCache.1
  • msmouse.pnf
  • input.pnf

 

    Open the command prompt and type the below command

Net stop Cryptsvc

 

 Backup and delete the folder “%windir%\system32\catroot2”.

Reboot the computer.

Insert USB mouse to another port which hasn’t been used before.

 Uninstall all HID devices from device manager then check "Scan for new hardware" option.
