Analytics for Twitter enables you to create tweet dashboards inside Microsoft® Office Excel 2013 by searching on any combination of terms including #hashtags, @user mentions, and keywords. The workbook comes with several sheets that provide valuable insight into the search terms and are an easy way create your own customized Twitter analytics.
• Topics – identify key topics and mentions, frequency of tweets by time of day, and top tweeters. • People – insight into the key tweeters for your search queries including mentions and retweets. • Tweet Map – a map of where are your tweeters are located and a distribution of when they tweeted. • Mentions – the most talked about tweeters for your search terms. • Tweeter Profiles – explore details about tweeters and the most talked about tweeters for your search terms. • Details – dive into every tweet, filtering on key items.
Note: During the searching process if your search queries return too many results in a short amount of time you may have to wait a few minutes before Twitter will provide you more tweets. Analytics for Twitter will automatically continue gathering tweets after this waiting period, but if you don’t want to wait click the “Stop & Process Now” button to generate the reports with the tweets you already have.
To fully harness the power of Analytics for Twitter we recommend using advanced search. By specifying a small amount of search information such as location, type of tweets, and language you can generate a much more targeted analysis of Twitter. In advanced search each of your five queries use their own configuration enabling you to compare the same query in different areas or languages.
Note: A very easy way to get a geocode for a given location is to search for it on bing maps. If you right click on the map it will give you the latitude and longitude for the clicked location.
Analytics for Twitter has been designed to support up to five concurrent search queries on #hashtags, @mentions, keywords and Tweeters. The search operators' syntax follows Twitter Search syntax. For more information see Twitter’s documentation on advanced searches. The following examples outline several sample search scenarios.
Searching Hashtags
• #microsoft, #msbi, #sql, #sqlserver, #powerpivot
• #microsoft AND #bi, #sql OR #sqlserver
Searching Mentions
• @microsoft, @microsoftbi, @powerpivot
• @microsoft AND @bi, @sql OR @sqlserver
Searching Keywords (i.e. freeform text search)
• microsoft, powerpivot, excel
• excel AND bi, powerpivot or sql
Tweeters
• from:MicrosoftBITV, from:MicrosoftBI
• from:MicrosoftBITV OR from:MicrosoftBI
Combo Search
• #msbi, @microsoftbi, MicrosoftBI, from:MicrosoftBI
• #msbi AND @microsoftbi, MicrosoftBI OR from:MicrosoftBI

Nice post
muy util gracias
Looking forward to trying the 2013 version. Is it expected to be available for download soon?
Thanks
I've been working with the new version. It looks like a great tool. One question -- is it possible to change the data range for the Date Slicer?
Carla on which report do you want to change the date range? We don't have much control over which date ranges are returned from twitter, but you should be able to choose a subset from that range. Feel free to get in touch with me. My email is my first name at Extendedresults.com
Hello ER, your Tool seems to be very powerful, it often fails at importing new Tweets for methough.
"An exception occured while searching ... please verify your search query ..." This also happens when I refresh the default sheets tweets.
If I can assist you finding the error, don't hesitate to contance me.
Regards!
I'm getting an "exception occurred while searching: #term Please verify your search query...." This happens for all terms I use.
Cyruss & Patrick. It looks like there has been some changes to information returned with the query which has caused this issue. We have identified a solution and are working on an updated build. If either of you are interested in doing some beta testing get in touch with me via email. I'll be sure to make an announcement when it is released.
How do you export this PowerPivot model to an SSAS 2012 Tabular Instance? I tried but it doesn't seem to work. I also tried to restored from workbook and it doesn't work.
why not put this in the cloud and create a tabular SSAS database out of the data and schedule a periodic refresh? this example is very slow on my desktop with 16 GB of RAM and running Excel 2013 64 bit.
this doesn't install on windows 2012 server that has office 2013 (Windows Azure VM).
thanx for this article , I download it and start using it , but please tell me how can i get all tweets from specific location (such as: cairo city), I tried to leave Query name empty and enter Geocode for cairo city but it doesnt work , also when I enter any query name and enter geocode of Cairo City it return tweets from another location)
Binh: Here's how we have been using full Analysis Server with our Analytics for Twitter PowerPivot model.
First publish your populated Analytics for Twitter.xlsx to a PowerPivot Gallery.
In SQL Management Studio connect to that model by selecting Analysis Services and use the full URL for the xlsx file you posted to your PowerPivot Gallery. Once connected to the PowerPivot model, right click on the database and select backup. This will create the .abf file you will restore to your tabular instance.
While in SQL Management Studio Connect to your tabular Analysis Services SQL Server. Right click on databases and select restore. Use the .abf file to restore.
Note: This workflow isn't designed for easy refreshing of data, but rather to utilize the performance improvements of hosting on SQL. You will also need appropriate permission levels to be able to backup and restore process.
As for your other platform suggestions we agree that Analytics for Twitter is a great idea for a full featured server/cloud application/service. If this is something your business is interested in please get in touch.
Try following the steps in known issues for installation troubles. You may need to create an Office 15 folder.
