AD 2003 and SCCM 2012

Does it make sense to upgrade the AD infrastructure 03 native to 08r2 before installing SCCM 2012. Trying to make a decision as to what the priority should be; based on my limited knowledge of SCCM 2012 i am thinking that the 08r2 upgrade should be a priority before installing/configuring SCCM 2012 - to take advantage of the additional functionality available in 08r2. Any thoughts.
