SharePoint 2010: Cannot Connect to Configuration Database SQL Timeout Error in Event Viewer

Recently in a SharePoint 2010 environment we started to experience SQL timeout errors overnight, which ultimately caused their SharePoint environment to throw an error “Cannot Connect to Configuration Database.” The errors occurrence was not consistent except for the only message in the Event Viewer was a SQL Timeout message. The only resolution to get SharePoint back up and running was to reboot the SharePoint server.  After some digging around in SQL Server 2008, we discovered that SQL’s Maximum memory allocation was not set to a specific level.  A quick adjustment to the Max Memory, and the error has cleared up.

  • I think it should also work by restarting the SQL services.
