SharePoint 2010 : Search Content Enrichment and Extensibility

SharePoint 2010 : Search Content Enrichment and Extensibility

Content Processing in SharePoint 2013(Overview):

*
Deep Link Extraction
* Smart metadata extraction
* People Search
* Document Parsing (incl. PDF, Office 2013 formats)
* Extensibility OnPremise
        ** Content Enrichment web service
        ** Entity Extractors
        ** Custom word-breakers
        ** Custom IFilters

How indexing works:

* Load balancing:  Content Submission Service (CSS) distributes items to flows
* Scale:  #CPU cores determine #Flows
* High availability: Crawler can fail over to another CSS endpoint
* Error handling: Failures are retried (see failures in the Crawl Log)

What happens inside content processing:

The content processing flow populates the managed properties for each item
Different branches for Insert, Delete and Update. You can customize the search experience through the extensibility points in the content processing flow

Challenges and Solutions:

* Want:  Scale-out capabilities; Fault tolerance; Service aggregation
* Have:  Single endpoint service reference
* Vehicles: WCF Routing Service; Network Load Balancing; IIS Application Request Routing
