Forum Moderation: How to Move Threads Between Different Language Forums

NOTE: This article applies to the MSDN/TechNet forum platform (not Microsoft Community, ASP.NET, etc.).

This article may help forum moderators to move threads between forums in different languages. For example, in many English forums from time to time there are threads in Spanish or Portuguese. In order to move these threads into the appropriate forum, we can use the following two methods:

1. After you click the Move button/link, use the language dialog at the top of the page:


Change the language to the appropriate language, and you should be able to move the thread to the correct forum of that language. Change your language setting back once the move is done.

2. An alternative way is to change the language tag directly in the URL if you know that language (for example, Spanish is es-ES and Portuguese is pt-BR). Change en-US (if you are starting from the English forum) to the correct language abbreviation and click Enter to refresh the list of the forums to move the thread.

    Oh, I think I know. If you change the URL instead of using the dialog drop down, does it automatically refresh the "Move Thread" page to show that language's options? And then you can just change the URL again to move back to your original language (such as English)? Thanks for writing this up!

    You may need to refresh after changing the URL. I wanted to make a quick test right now, but the forums are quite slow at the moment so I can not review the steps. But basically once you're in the move dialog, change the URL, refresh if needed.
