WiKi: Tip - How to Add Table of Contents to the Article in Foreign Language

This short tip should help people struggling with the problem of adding Table of Contents to the long article in the foreign language. We know, that [ toc ] tag in WiKi creates the table of contents. However, I spent several attempts to add Table of Contents to the article written in Russian before it dawned on me that I should have switched into HTML view and use English for the <a name tags to make proper anchors. Once I've changed all these links to English words, my Table of Contents worked properly in Russian.

Below is an example of the article in Russian with the Table of Contents (toc) working correctly. You can check the HTML code if you click "Edit" and then switch to HTML view from the default Design view.

  • Naomi, Patris_70 recently had problems with Persian articles and we fixed it the same way you describe, using English strings in the <a name> anchor tags in the HTML. However, we still had "Table of Contents" in English. But your Russian article does not. How did you do that?

  • What exactly do you mean? All I did was fixing the names as I described in the article.
