Windows Embedded Compact is a set of tools and technologies that you can use to create real-time, componentized, small-footprint operating systems for smart, connected devices.  You can use Windows Embedded Compact to create operating systems for devices based on X86, ARM, MIPS, and SH4 architectures.

The current release version of Windows Embedded Compact is Windows Embedded Compact 7, released for general availability on March 1st, 2011.
The previous version of Windows Embedded Compact is Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3.
