Problem Statement

Installing the FIM Service and Portal an error message may appear with the wording below:

“The Forefront Identity Manager Server database could not be successfully deployed.  Error: Timeout Expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.”


The initial size set for the database on the Model Database is large, so any new database created will use the Model Database as a template to create a database.  This caused the timeout when installing the FIM Service and Portal.


Once the Model Database size was reduced we were able to install the FIM Service and Portal
