SharePoint supports intranet, extranet and Internet applications from a single, integrated platform. Specific licenses you need depend on three factors: what capabilities are used, how it is implemented SharePoint and where the system is hosted. SharePoint Online is licensed per user. SharePoint Online can be purchased as stand-alone plan or include it as part of Office 365 plans. Data from SharePoint Online licenses are available here .
For local Intranet sites are licensed using a server model / CAL (Client Access License). SharePoint Server 2013 is required for each running instance of the software, and CALs are required for each person or device accessing a SharePoint Server.
