While it is possible to use SQL Data Sync to create a backup of your data it is not recommended.

SQL Data Sync
  • Does not version synchronizations. Therefore, you cannot backup and restore to a specific point in time.
  • Does not backup other SQL objects, like stored procedures.
  • Does not "restore" quickly.
We recommend Database Copy for SQL Databases (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff951631.aspx) and well established procedures for SQL Server databases.
