Hyper-V: Maximum VM RAM

Hyper-V: Maximum VM RAM

Customers often ask about the maximum RAM supported in a Hyper-V virtual machine. In Windows Server 2008 R2 the maximum amount of RAM you can have in a virtual machine is 64 GB. You can find all the Requirements and Limits for Virtual Machines and Hyper-V in Windows Server 2008 R2 on TechNet at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee405267(WS.10).aspx. For Windows Server 2012 the limit was raised to 1TB Ram for each VM (see http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/8/E/E8ECBD78-F07A-4A6F-9401-AA1760ED6985/Competitive-Advantages-of-Windows-Server-Hyper-V-over-VMware-vSphere.pdf , Table on Page 6)
