In addition to it's use as a customer relationship management application, Microsoft CRM can also be considered as a more general application development framework. This usage is commonly referred to as xRM, although Microsoft now prefer the term Extended CRM. In practice, many implementations of Microsoft CRM use a combination of the traditional, standard marketing, sales and customer service functionality that is supplied, along with specific customizations and extensions.

Isn't the overview supposed to literally be an index of the other items in the wiki. When you click on something like deploy shouldn't it then show all the articles that are tagged deploy. I feel like this was originally meant to be like a tree view. Similar to what exists today in MediaWiki
I prefer to think of an Overview as an actual Overview, rather than an Index. There's still space for establishing a good index of material. The direction we decided to go with the Overview is to establish focus areas, and provide a bit of a summary thereof--with each focus area having an index itself to context-appropriate articles. While this does depart from what is commonly found around the TechNet wiki, we felt it provided a gentler approach to educating CRM newcomers. That said, if you wish to work on an index, and drop a link to it from this page, please do so. I think there's a need and space for both approaches to identifying content.
Jamie,
Typically we recommend that it's both... a description overview and an index. This article does a good job of filling both needs. When both the description and the index get too large for one article, then we recommend that we split them and build a portal of Wiki articles about that technology instead. And just leave a few higher-level Wiki links in the overview article.
