SSRS: You see the error message “403 Forbidden response” when rendering a report with _vti_bin/ReportServer in the URL

Background:

When using the SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 SP2 Add-in on SharePoint 2007, integrated with a SSRS 2008 R2 report server and you attempt to view a report using ‘_vti_bin/ReportServer’ in the URL, you will see the following error:

403 Forbidden response”

The following is an example of what the full URL may look like:

http://YourSharePointSite/_vti_bin/ReportServer

Workaround:
  • View the report from the SharePoint document library where the report is stored.
  • The issue does not occur with SharePoint 2010 products.

Applies to:
  • SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 SP2 add-in for SharePoint Products.
  • SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2 Report Server.

Integrated with:

  • Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and Office SharePoint Server 2007
