MSP is a Windows Installer Patch File.  So the naming convention of the MSP files will follow the base RTM installation MSI.

Understanding what you currently have installed for FIM is very critical, as it is very important to keep the pieces of FIM at the same build level.

Important

  • Always make a backup of FIM prior to installing any updates
  • When updating the FIM server components, all must be updated to the same build of FIM.
  • Language packs must be updated to the same build as the FIM components they support.
  • If multiple FIMService instances are installed, each instance must be updated.
  • If multiple FIM Portal instances are installed, each instance must be updated
