GPO to Hide Control Panel Items in Windows 7

GPO to Hide Control Panel Items in Windows 7

In Windows 2000/XP when specifying which Control Panel applets should be displayed/hidden via GPO, the applets could be specified by the applet name (ie. datetime.cpl). In Windows 7 this is no longer the case - specifying the applets will not work. Instead, the Canonical name of the object must be used (ie. for the Date & Time applet, the Canonical Name would be Microsoft.DateAndTime). There is a list of Canonical Names of objects located at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee330741(VS.85).aspx.
