How to Ban or Report a TechNet or MSDN User Account

How to Ban or Report a TechNet or MSDN User Account

This article is part of the Wiki series: MSDN/TechNet Forums.

This article explains how to flag or report a user account that you see in any TechNet or MSDN tool, including:

  • TechNet Wiki
  • Forums
  • Blogs
  • Gallery/Samples
  • Library Annotations

You might want to flag an account that is abusing the system in the following ways:

  • Inappropriate name, rude, or are using crude words
  • Spam account (the account's only purpose is to advertise)
    • NOTE: Do not confuse this with users who link to their sites or blogs. This is when a post is clearly off topic and clearly only exists to advertise an unrelated Web site.

To Report a TechNet Wiki Account

Click here: https://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/mailform/contactus.aspx?refurl=http://technet.microsoft.com/wiki/

Enter the following information in the form:

  1. Name of the alias/account
  2. Link to the account's Profile page
  3. Link to any spam pages (such as Wiki spam changes)

To Report Any TechNet/MSDN Account

Enter the following information in the form:

  1. Name of the alias/account
  2. Link to the account's Profile page
  3. Link to any spam pages (such as Forum spam posts)

To Report Forum Spammers

Click here: Report Spam Thread or look for the latest 'Report SPAM thread' in that forum

  1. Link to the account's Profile page.
  2. Link to any spam pages (such as Forum spam posts)

Report abusive content

To Flag a Forum Post as Abusive

You might need to flag a specific post as inappropriate (rude, button pushing, etc.) or as spam. But it isn't clear that the account should be banned (this is most cases).

  1. In the bottom-right corner of any forum post (including the original post for the thread), click Report As Abuse. This opens a drop-down menu.
  2. Click one of the options. If you're unsure, it doesn't matter too much which one you pick.
  3. Make sure you clearly explain the reason for reporting the post.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Only report other people's posts when they are explicitly violating the terms of use.
Disagreement with technical content, or dislike of a person is no reason for reporting content or persons.

  • So why was my account banned if I didn't break any of the rules?  Is there some way to find out who banned my account and why?

  • Although wiki pages say 'Report inappropriate content using the Report Abuse link in the footer' there is no such link; could it be added to wiki pages as well as forum posts? As it means the only option for wiki problems is reporting the account rather than the page...
