Troubleshooting Client Backup and Restore Issues when using Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials, Windows Home Server 2011 and Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials

Client backup Restore fails on specific client, but not all clients.

Applies to

Windows Home Server 2011, Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials and Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials with Windows 7 or Windows Vista clients. You would get the following error message “The restore process did not succeed; the system cannot find the path specified” when you run “Restore files or folders for the computer” via Dashboard on the client.

Cause

It can happen if "auto volume mount feature" is disabled from intend or by 3rd party application on client

Solution

To manually turn on the "auto volume mount feature", run command line under "Administrator" privilege and type "mountvol /E" on the client. Then run “Restore files or folders for the computer” again.
