What licensing is used if I have the multitenant? ent SAL? I'm installing and it specifies checking all the features. If we dont use pstn/voip, should I uncheck these options? I don't want to use the plus SAL if we dont have to since we dont use voip. How is licensing handled?
Josh
Hello,
I am evaluating this and I have the following question, how can I move an existing deployment inside the client to multitenant?
or at least, how can I synchronize the AD into multitenant? there is a FIM or like BPOS, a tool to do this?
thank you.
Hans A.
Hi Josh,
I am a technical writer on the Lync team at Microsoft. Thanks for your question.
The response I got from the product team is that the licensing is SPLA, and you can uncheck the features that you are not interested in using.
I hope that answers your question. Please let me know if it does not. And please let us know of any feedback you have on the Lync Server Multitenant Pack for Hosting Partners.
Regards,
Randall
Hi Hans,
Thanks for your question. I am sorry that I am not replying directly to your post, but I am not seeing any Reply links.
The answer I received from the product team is that you can deploy the Lync Server Multitenant Pack for Partner Hosting side by side, and then use DirSync and AD FS to synchronize AD.
Please let me know if you need any additional information.
Hi Randall,
How can we get technical support for this MultiTenant version?
Alex
Hi Alex,
Support for the Multitenant Hosting Pack is available through the Premier Support program, which you can access at this link: www.microsoft.com/.../premier_support.aspx
We would also be a happy to assist with any technical issues that you post in this forum.
I read that the FQDNs listed in the tenant-specific DNS Records table must be added as subject alternative names to the certificates used by all Lync servers that includes Front End, Director, Edge and A/V Conferencing Servers, because the certificates used within the Lync Server infrastructure must match those used in the request.
This means that since the public certificate on the Edge servers are accessible to the internet, any user will be able see the list of all SIP domains hosted by the provider. This is not something hosters like. Is there a workaround for this?
Thanks Alex
Here is a response to your question from the product team:
You would only need to add the DNS records for tenant domains to the Lync Edge server public certificate IF you want automatic client configurations to work. If you are ok with manual client configuration (as in a custom installer that sets the registry settings in Lync to already have your manual server address configured) then you would not need to add their records to your public UCC. That said however, if you do want automatic client configuration to work, then this would be a requirement and unfortunately there isn’t a work around.
Please let us know if you need more information.
Hi Randall, thanks for the response. This solves the sign-in issue but It seems that a SAN entry is needed anyway for every customer for Lync Federation to work. Can you confirm?
Thanks
Hi,
Thanks for the information in the above Article.
I believe however there are limitations on the scalability of any Lync Mulit-Tenant Environment.
As pointed out by rdubois, there is a requirement to have every tenant domain as a SAN in the access edge certificate, however we have only found certificate authorities that will allow up to a maximum of 100 SAN's in a certificate.
What is the guidance for the 101st tenant? Is there something I have missed in the documentation?
