When to Use Them

SharePoint 2010 Wiki

Use it when:

  • You have SharePoint 2010. =^)
  • You have information that is specific about your company or your company's work and doesn't pertain to Microsoft technologies/products.
  • You have information that you shouldn't share publically with the world (even if it does include information about Microsoft products).

TechNet Wiki 2012

Use it when:

  • You have information about Microsoft technologies/products, and it's okay to publically share the information with the world.

Not only does it allow you to collaborate with the world (and build a reputation around your content), but it also gives you the features that are unique to TechNet Wiki:

  • The quick and easy TOC tag.
  • Comments per page to maximize communication.
  • Connection to TechNet/MSDN profiles (and the Recognition Points and Achievement Medals).
  • The simple History tab with quick and easy comparisons.
  • The Editor with a quick and friendly HTML tab.
