AD RMS How To: Export TUD and TLD keys

Whether setting up a trust or doing a backup there are times when it is prudent to export the AD RMS Trusted User Domains (TUD) and Trusted Publishing Domains (TPD) keys. This process is readily accomplished by using the Active Directory Rights Management Services console.

  1. Start the AD RMS console

  2. Navigate to Trusted User Domains and select the desired TUD in the center pane (just one by default)

  3. Choose Export Trusted User Domain from the Actions pane

  4. In the Export Trusted User Domain As dialog select the desired location and provide the file name

  5. Navigate to Trusted Publishing Domains and select the desired TPD in the center pane (just one by default)

  6. Choose Export Trusted Publishing Domain from the Actions pane

  7. In the Export Trusted Publishing Domain wizard choose save as for the publishing domain file

  8. In the Export Trusted Publishing Domain File As dialog select the desired location and provide the file name

  9. Back in the wizard provide the password to protect the TPD (do not forget this password)
Select the bottom check box if the TPD needs to be imported into an RMS v1 cluster

  10. Once finished the keys are in the specified location
